The notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) dated March 3 1, 20-19, stated that with effect from April 1, 20-19 it is required to quote your Aadhaar number when filing ITR as necessary under part 139AA(1)(ii) unless specifically exempted. The telling further specifies that the tax return cannot be filed either electronically or manually without even quoting Aadhaar number.

In Budget 2019-20, Finance Minister Nirmala  announced to make PAN and Aadhaar interchangeable.
